Managed IT Services
Would Your Business Benefit from Managed IT Services?
Many businesses have recognized the benefit of transitioning to a proactive IT services model versus the traditional reactive model where the customer manages IT and the IT provider isn’t contacted until there is a problem–similar to our on-demand IT services. Often times, the problem could have been avoided or at least mitigated with a proactive approach. If your business is experiencing reactive and unpredictable IT problems, you would certainly benefit from the transition to a proactive managed IT services model.
Managed IT Services Defined
Managed IT services are defined as the proactive management of IT operations by a third party IT services provider typically known as an MSP or Managed services provider. These services are provided on a contracted basis by the MSP on behalf of the customer.
Managed IT Services vs Break Fix
In the more traditional break-fix model, the business contacts the IT company when they discover a problem. The IT company carries no responsibility on an on-going basis to monitor the servers, desktops, laptops, network and backups. Many times, problems start but they aren’t discovered until they become a crisis. The managed IT services model avoids this as systems are actively maintained and monitored. The IT company is able to identify problems sooner and generally resolve them before they become a crisis.
Aligning the Business and IT Provider
In a break-fix arrangement, the IT provider is most profitable when there are problems and is generally paid hourly. The business is least profitable when there are problems as they are having problems and compensating the IT provider to resolve them. In a managed IT services arrangement, services are provided proactively under a contracted basis. The IT provider is most profitable when there are fewer problems and therefore, the business also becomes most profitable. This model aligns the business and IT provider.
